June 28th was quite the day. After having dinner in Katie's before I left, we arrived at JFK with absolutely no traffic thanks to the fact that we had left late. After waiting in a hilariously long line, I was told my hand luggage had to be checked because it was too heavy and that was going to cost $100. I was also told that I had to pay $50 for the aisle seat that I had definitely requested at the time of booking. When I was finally given my boarding pass, after receiving both of these things for free (thank God), my flight turned out to be over two hours late. Dad said goodbye to me and I went down to look around.
The things I had taken out of my carry on luggage (my makeup, my camera, etc.) were now in my hands and in my purse, so I had to buy a bag to put them in for my own convenience. Armed with my new and totally unnecessary bag, I parked myself at a wine bar where the bartender convinced me to "treat myself" with a $25 glass of Sauvignon Blanc. I believe the wine will never taste good again after those glasses that I had, because they were amazing. Getting a bit nervous, I walked down to the gate and parked myself at the Irish bar in a seat where I had a great view of the other passengers in a line that was going no where.
On my way onto the plane, I took two benedryl. I fell asleep before the plane took off and woke up wityh a shake on the shoulder at breakfast time. I never heard the child beside me once.
Finally in London and feeling great, I figured I could catch the 12:05 bus (it was 11:45). Perfect timing, right? Nope. I had to wait for the "13:05," because the rest were "all full." So after going into the smelliest bathroom in the world with my suitcase trolley to change, freshen up and re-do my makeup, I sat for a couple hours at the bus station drinking Limonata San Pellegrino's and reading a book off my iPad.
Finally, I arrived in Cambridge. I was so happy to be there! I got into the car with Aunty Nelly, who drove me straight to a family communion party (why was I surprised that there was a party going on?) where I saw almost everyone and had a great time. The next day I found out she was going on vacation and it was time to fend for myself! After a lovely couple of days in Cambridge, she was back and I was leaving.
In four days, I have been on a plane twice and spent most of that time in the most depressing rain. One day, however, I was able to go to Willie Clancy week in Miltown Malbay, which was awesome! I've never enjoyed a session before this EVER! I was actually sad to be leaving the pub and heading back to Granny's, just for the shear fact that I wanted to stay.
I am currently in a hotel that looks like a cross between the hostel I stayed at in Paris over New Year's the year before last and the depressing and horrible student accommodations that we stayed at in Derry last year for the Fleadh. It's clean, but it's not pretty. And the food is beyond horrible. I wish it was the Hilton, haha!
Tomorrow I head to Guernsey, which is a Channel Island in between England and France. I can't wait!! I'll probably never want to come back. Anyway, I hope I can become more dilligent in my posting! I see that there have been 33 views on this page before I posted a single word...
Anyway, most of my pictures are being posted to Facebook: www.facebook.com/fiona.crowley10, and Instagram: crowleyfiona. Talk to everyone soon! xx
